THE MUSKETEER

The official Corinthians symbol is, not for casualty, a musketeer, synonym of bravery, audacity and fighting spirit. The adoption of the symbol occurred in the first years of the club existence. In 1913, a division between the leaders of São Paulo soccer caused the foundation of the A.P.E.A. - Associação Paulista de Esportes Atléticos, to where the majority of the clubs went.

In the destroyed Paulista League, remained only Americano, Germania and Internacional, known as the three musketeers of the São Paulo soccer. In this scenery, Corinthians entered like D'Artagnan and became the fourth (and more adored) musketeer, like in the novel written by the French writer Alexandre Dummies. To be accepted in the sportive universe of the musketeers, Corinthians had to show his fiber. As there were other candidates, Corinthians disputed a selective tournament against Minas Gerais and São Paulo, two strong clubs from the São Paulo várzea (amateur soccer). With class and competence, the Corinthians team beat Minas 1-0 and São Paulo 4-0, been accepted by the other musketeers and obtaining the right of disputing the main division of the league in the following year.
